The short version: no accounts, no names, no stored conversations. The only thing driftir keeps is report records, so bad actors can be dealt with.
What we don't collect
No registration. There are no accounts, emails, phone numbers, or profiles.
No stored chats. Text messages pass through our server only to be delivered to your partner — they are relayed in memory and never written to storage.
No video or audio on our servers, ever. Video calls are peer-to-peer (WebRTC): the stream travels directly between your browser and your partner's browser. It does not pass through, and cannot be recorded by, driftir.
What we do process
Session ID. While connected, you're identified by a random ID (like a1b2c3…). It's created when you connect and discarded when you disconnect. It is not linked to your name, IP, or device.
Report records. When someone presses Report, we store: the time, the random session IDs of both parties, the chat mode (text/video), and the report reason. That's the full list. Records are kept for moderation review and deleted when handled.
Age confirmation. Your "I'm 18 or older" answer is saved in your own browser (localStorage) so you're not asked twice. It never leaves your device.
Third parties
Cloudflare hosts driftir. Like any host, Cloudflare processes IP addresses and standard connection logs to deliver the site (Cloudflare's privacy policy).
Google Fonts. The two fonts on this site load from Google's servers, so your browser sends Google a standard font request including your IP address.
Google STUN. To set up a peer-to-peer video call, your browser contacts a Google STUN server to discover its public address. Google sees that connectivity request.
One thing you should know about video
Because video is peer-to-peer, your IP address may be technically visible to your video chat partner — this is how WebRTC works on virtually every video chat service. If that concerns you, use text chat (which is relayed through our server) or a VPN.
Cookies
driftir sets no cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is the age-confirmation flag described above, and you can clear it anytime by clearing site data.
Your choices
Leave any conversation instantly — nothing about it is retained.
Clear your browser's site data to remove the age flag.
Prefer text mode if you don't want a peer-to-peer connection.
Children
driftir is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly let minors use the service. See the Terms of Use.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it. Big changes will be flagged on the landing page.
